Test Benches

A variety of Motors and Drives Test Benches is available in the Laboratories of EDLab-net.

In EDLab-PD one can find:

A. “High speed test bench” - For testing electric motors under speed operation (measurement of efficiency, torque-speed characteristics, magnetic characteristics, thermal tests and so on). The motor under test can be loaded/dragged by a variable speed induction motor drive able up to 20 Nm and 3000 rpm. Measured quantities are acquired by a dSpace 1104 digital board and stored also for post processing.

B. “Low speed test bench” - For testing electric motors under low speed operation or standstill (measurement of cogging torque, torque harmonics, torque-current characteristics and so on). The motor under test can be loaded/dragged by a variable speed brushless motor drive through a high ratio gearbox able to deliver up to 200 Nm at the motor shaft and 50 rpm. Measured quantities are acquired by a dSpace 1104 digital board and stored also for post processing.

D. “Electric drives test benches” - Each of them is equipped with a brake variable speed electric motor drive and a dedicated inverter for feeding the motor under test. Such an inverter is connected to and controlled by dSpace 1104 digital control boards in which all the control algorithms, from the PWM to the outer loops, can be implemented. Squirrel cage and wound rotor induction motors, as well as PM and Reluctance synchronous motors are available as motor under test.
